Blueskin® VP100 Declared “Red List Free” by the International Living Future Institute

By enabling an effective building envelope, Blueskin® VP100 makes residential and light commercial structures more energy efficient. But it’s not the only way this self-adhered air barrier makes buildings more sustainable. Blueskin VP100 has also been deemed "Red List Free" by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), a non-profit group promoting eco-friendly building standards.

What is the "Red List"

The ILFI compiled the Living Building Challenge (LBC) "Red List" to identify the least sustainable, worst-in-class materials, chemicals, and elements used in the building industry. These are substances known to pose severe risks to human health and the greater ecosystem. To help builders reduce and eventually eliminate the use of such substances, the ILFI developed the "Declare" label.

Think of the Declare label as a nutrition label for building products – one on which manufacturers get to disclose information about their building product ingredients voluntarily. Declare labels identify where a product comes from, what it’s made of, and where it goes at the end of its useful life. A product’s compliance with the LBC Red List is shown on each Declare label and indicated by one of three Declaration Statuses:

  • LBC Red List Free products disclose 100% of ingredients present at or above 100 ppm (0.01%) in the final product and contain no Red List chemicals.
  • LBC Red List Approved products disclose a minimum of 99% of ingredients present in the final product and meet the LBC Red List Imperative requirements through one or more approved exceptions.
  • Declared products disclose 100% of ingredients present in the final product but contain one or more Red List chemicals not covered by an approved exception.

Blueskin® VP100 = LBC Red List Free

Following a rigorous review of its product supply chain and ingredients, Blueskin VP100 is certified "LBC Red List Free" – the highest possible Declaration Status available. It means that building designers, developers, contractors, and homeowners can rest assured that Blueskin VP100 meets the leading green building standards, including LEED and WELL Certifications.

Ultimately, the designation of Blueskin VP100 as an LBC Red List Free product demonstrates Henry® Company’s commitment to a more sustainable future for the construction industry and the planet. After all, any manufacturer can just say their products are "green," but at Henry, we have the third-party receipts to prove it!
