The Challenge
Offering amenities like an interior courtyard with a swimming pool and a rooftop terrace with Philadelphia skyline views, the Cynwyd is a new five-story multifamily building. Built by Arlington, Virginia-based CBG Building Company, the 205-unit Cynwyd consists of a two-story concrete podium below five stories of wood framing.
Initially, Blueskin VP160 Self-Adhered Water Resistive Air Barrier was planned to be installed on the building’s above-grade walls. But once construction was underway, the builder changed their minds and sought a fluid applied solution instead, to keep up with the rapid installation speed of the project’s prefab wall panel segments. The fluid applied air barrier would also need to meet NFPA 285 requirements and be robust enough to support the unique 10-year building envelope warranty that CBG offers on all projects.
The Solution
Henry proposed Air-Bloc All-Weather STPE, a fluid-applied, vapor permeable membrane with key performance characteristics that help speed installation. Air-Bloc All-Weather STPE can be spray-applied in just one coat, and its rapid cure time makes it rain-ready in just 30 minutes. Air-Bloc All-Weather STPE also supports NFPA 285 requirements and was determined to be fully compatible with all other Henry Building Envelope Systems® products being used on the building, including Henry CM 100 Cold Fluid Applied High Building Roofing and Waterproofing System for the amenity rooftop deck, and Henry Blueskin® WP 200 Self-Adhered Waterproofing System on the below-grade walls.
