The Situation

Elliott/Drinkward, an experienced multi-family framing contractor with over 16 million square feet framed, primarily frames projects classified as “affordable housing.” When it came to The Spark project in Long Beach, California, they needed a complete high-performance weather-resistive barrier system that offers long-term reliability. Combine that objective with a crew consisting of new members, Elliott/Drinkward also needed solutions that could be installed flawlessly with minimal training.

The Solution

With the project objectives in mind, Elliott/Drinkward chose Henry® Super Jumbo Tex® 60 Minute to install behind stucco cladding. For the recessed windows, they selected a combination of mechanically-attached Henry® Moistop neXT®, self-adhered Henry® FortiFlash® window flashing and Moistop® Sealant. These products together provided an effective weatherization system that would stand up to the wind and salty humidity of the coastal area.

Todd Odum of Elliott/Drinkward also added: “The installation procedures of the Henry system just make sense. But even more important is the support of the Henry team. They serve as an advisor, helping us make sure the actual install meets the architect’s specs. They’re there for the mock-up, training and to observe actual install.”

The Results

Installing the Fortifiber® 1-2-3 Moisture Control System™ from Henry allowed Elliott/Drinkward to build low-income housing with high-performance products that met their budget requirements. Installing the complete Henry weather-resistive barrier system allowed the project to receive an industry-leading 15-year warranty that provides labor PLUS materials for warranted repairs.
